A man has taken to social media to ask if his dog's human-like name is "stupid" after he was ghosted by a date when she found out about it.
Concerned that he'll put off more people with his pup's name David - which he thinks is "sweet" - he has taken to Reddit for advice.
The 27-year-old explained how he invited his date over to his house after thinking that they'd really hit it off, writes the Mirror.
But after the romantic partner discovered that his dog was named David, things turned sour and he hasn't heard back from her since.
"She came over to my house and met my dog and when I told her his name is David, she looked really disappointed but didn't say anything," he explained.
"It's been three days and she isn't responding to my calls or texts. Did I really mess up? Should I rename my dog?"
Explaining why he named his dog David, he added: "The dog is named after my dad. I thought it would be sweet but it seems like she was hinting it's a stupid name for a dog."
Wanting to know whether David is a "stupid dog's name" he has taken to Reddit to gauge peoples' opinions and try to understand what he did wrong to be shunned from her life.
While most users agreed he is better off without her, others believe there must have been something else which put her off him, with one even suggesting that David is the name of her ex.
Another user added: "Assuming the reason she doesn't want to continue dating you is because of the dog's name - is that someone you'd really want to be in a relationship with anyways?
"Someone who ends something over a dog's name? Honestly, I bet it had nothing to do with David and she just wasn't feeling it. On to greener pastures."
A third user said: "If she doesn’t like your dog, she’s not the girl for you."
Another user added: "I once dated a girl who broke up with me because my hands were too skinny. She said it was like holding hands with Slenderman.
"We were school aged at the time. I'm now in my 40s and still have a complex over my hands every now and then."
