'Man with gun' sparks armed police to smash in door of house

Armed police smashed in a front door and shouted "get your hands up" as they cordoned off a street.

Merseyside Police received a call at around 5.50pm on Tuesday, June 6, reporting a man had been seen in possession of a suspected gun in Rawcliffe Road in Walton. Police arrived in force a short time later with patrol cars, matrix cars, a dog unit and armed police.

Eyewitnesses said they saw armed police with "big guns" walk up to the entrance of a home and start shouting. A cordon was put in place covering the majority of Rawcliffe Road between Rice Lane and Highfield Road.

An eyewitness, who lives on the road, said: "At about 6.20pm three matrix cars turned up they kicked the door in with one of those metal bars. They were shouting get your hands up, police are coming in, you need to get out, don’t bring anything with you.

"Then the dog van turned up, the dog went in and they all came out."

Another person living on the road said they watched the police enter the home and come out a short while later.

They added: "They [police] came out and took their gear straight off. I didn’t see them bring anybody out.”

Another person on the road said they were told to “get back inside” by police on the street. Police have now confirmed they did not find a firearm during their investigations and no arrests have been made.
