Man who vanished from Scots mental health facility last month found in Glasgow

A man who sparked a police search after vanishing from a mental health facility in Irvine has been traced by officers.

Members of the public were warned not to approach Joseph Shields after he was seen leaving the grounds of Ayrshire Central Hospital on June 24.

The 43-year-old failed to return from agreed unescorted time out from Woodland View with worries quickly growing for his welfare.

NHS chiefs also expressed concern and said they were keen to bring him back to the facility as soon as possible.

After being missing for almost two weeks, Joseph has now been traced in Glasgow by officers.

A statement from Police Scotland read: “We are pleased to report that Joseph Shields, missing from the Kilwinning Road area of Irvine since Thursday 24 June 2021, has been traced in Glasgow.

“Thank you to everyone who shared our information.”
