Man who stole nearly £700 of goods from Boots is jailed

A man who stole nearly £700 worth of electrical goods from Boots in Troon has been jailed.

Darren Swindle, aged 38, of Alexander Avenue, Stevenston, appeared from custody at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday, July 10.

He pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of electrical goods from the shop in Academy Street on April 13 this year.

The court was told the value of the goods was £675 but there was no recovery.

Swindle was identified by CCTV.

His defence solicitor said: “He’s suffered over the years from substance abuse.”

Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart said: “There’s an inevitability here.

“There’s no other appropriate sentence other than a custodial one.”

Swindle was jailed for four months, backdated to June 27.
