Man went into Costcutter with Crocodile Dundee-style hunting knife

A man has been jailed after going into a corner shop with a Crocodile Dundee-style hunting knife strapped to his trousers.

Robbie Robertson, 33, had the blade in a sheath on his belt when he entered Costcutter on Elmbank Road, Stirling.

Police were called and Robertson was arrested.

Prosecutor Katie Cunningham said the incident occurred at 5.20 pm on June 13th last year.

She said: "It was a nine-inch long hunting knife."

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court by video link from Low Moss Prison, Robertson, of St Ninians, Stirling, pleaded guilty to having the knife in public.

Defence solicitor Virgil Crawford said: "He had bought it for his father, for fishing purposes.

"It was in full view in a sheath belted to his trousers."

Sheriff Christopher Shead jailed Robertson for 13 and a half months.

He said: "This was a particularly significant knife which he had in a public place. The potential for harm is obvious."
