Man was caught with hundreds of extreme pornographic images

A man has been ordered to sign the sex offenders' register after pleading guilty to possessing hundreds of extreme pornographic images, and prohibited images of children.

Nicholas Cliff, 36, of Spencer Drive in Nuthall, had 686 extreme pornographic images and 862 prohibited images of children on June 28, 2018, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

He admitted a third charge of possessing one Category C - the lowest category - indecent photo of a child between January 1, 2016, and June 28, 2018.

A warrant was executed by police at his home and the images were found on a laptop.

Judge James Sampson told Cliff in the dock: "It is quite clear to me you are highly ashamed of your behaviour".

Cliff - whose IQ is between 68 and 72 - replied: "I am, your honour".

The judge said Cliff is a mature man - in terms of his chronological age - but had had difficulties in his life.

The judge also said he was pleased Cliff had now settled and things had moved on over the last 18 months.

Steve Ramsell, mitigating, said Cliff had come on in leaps and bounds.

He received a 12-month community order concurrently on each charge, 35 rehabilitation activity days and an order to attend a programme. He will be on the sex offenders' register and subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
