Man vs Bee viewers love Rowan Atkinson's new comedy - but some are too anxious to watch

New Rowan Atkinson TV comedy Man vs Bee is certainly creating a buzz, with some viewers quick to sing its praises while others can't help but switch off.

The new nine-part series landed on Netflix over the weekend, instantly winning audiences over with its irresistible blend of easy-going charm and family-friendly slapstick.

And with each episode a mere ten minutes long, it's ideal if you like your comedy short ’n’ sweet.

Man vs Bee follows blunder-prone dad Trevor (Rowan Atkinson) who scores a plush new role house-sitting a sumptuous mansion festooned with pricey artwork and a garage full of classic cars.

Unfortunately, the first day on the job is rather spoilt by a bee that seems hell-bent on antagonising our Trevor.

Absolute chaos ensues, and with lots of expensive things to damage you can take a wild guess at what happens next.

Let’s just say it isn’t good news for the home owner.

Viewers were all over Man vs Bee like a honey trap, with many taking to Twitter to say how much it reminded them of classic Mr Bean.

Alongside scores of grinning emojis, one excited fan exclaimed: “Man vs Bee is hilarious. Gave me such Mr Bean vibes. What a comic talent Rowan is."

However, some fans branded the show too 'anxiety inducing' to continue watching, with one Twitter user saying: "Man vs Bee has to be the most stressful series ever made I can't".

Another wrote: "I hate Man vs Bee on Netflix. I’ve never been so stressed and upset in my life. This is the most annoying anxiety inducing show in the world, I could not watch past episode two. No plot, just Rowan Atkinson running round a house being dumb and over the top".

The Blackadder star recently gave a virtual conference where he revealed the new show partly mirrors a Mr Bean sketch done many moons ago.

He said: "I actually did a Mr Bean sketch a long, long time ago where he takes a picnic basket to a park and he's very, very bothered by a bee.

This isn't going to end well ... a scene from Man vs Bee (Netflix)

"So, to a certain extent, I feel that some of this show feeds off ... it's like an extension, an extrapolation from that old sketch that we did in the early nineties."

Rowan went on to explain that Man vs Bee wouldn’t have gelled together as well it does had Mr Bean featured in the lead role.

"The idea of a man stuck in a house with a bee - it's undoubtedly redolent of Mr Bean, it's got a hint of the Mr Bean world," he admitted.

"But I knew that for this kind of thing, Mr. Bean as a character wouldn't work at all.

"He would be too self-centred, too sort of unpleasant, or there's a risk of it being unpleasant."
