Man Utd vs Leeds: Erik ten Hag makes Mason Mount decision after Chelsea transfer

Mason Mount is set to make his Manchester United debut just a week after completing a £60million move to Old Trafford from Chelsea. The Blues and Mount had been in negotiations for months over possibly extending his stay at Stamford Bridge with just a year left to run on his contract.

An agreement was never reached between the two parties and when United became seriously interested, Mount's head was turned. Erik ten Hag had made signing the England international a priority this summer and agreed a deal with Chelsea to pay an initial £55million fee - with a possible £5million in add-ons at a later date.

Following his move to Old Trafford, Mount said: "It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.

"I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United."

Just a week on after his move to United was confirmed, Mount is set to make his debut for Ten Hag's side in a friendly against Leeds United. The 24-year-old has taken the famous No.7 shirt at United after it was left vacant by Cristiano Ronaldo following his exit in December.

Chelsea will play their first pre-season fixture against Wrexham next Wednesday as they prepare to fly to the USA. Mauricio Pochettino is looking to replace Mount in his squad and is now plotting a potential move for Lyon star Rayan Cherki.

The Blues stepped up their interest in Cherki and have been in direct contact with the Frenchman's representatives in recent days, football.london understands. Lyon, however, who have the 19-year-old under contract until June 30, 2025, are determined to keep hold of their prized asset.
