Man Utd stars get down to work at Marbella training camp ahead of top-four pursuit

While Manchester City's players were taking shelter from Storm Ciara, their local rivals were basking in the sunshine at their warm-weather training camp.

City's Premier League fixture against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium fell victim to the extreme weather conditions that battered the country.

But as Pep Guardiola and his City players faced fixture pile-up after Sunday's game against West Ham was called off, there are no such problems for Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United checked in to the Marbella Football Centre, their base for their mid-season break, where they will spend the next few days training, before returning home at the end of the week.

With the temperature nudging 21C in Southern Spain, compared to 10C in Manchester, Solskjaer and his players faced none of the weather-related issues affecting their shivering neighbours.

And while United's coaching staff were putting the players through their paces, club record signing Paul Pogba was continuing his recovery from ankle surgery at the NAS Sports Complex in Dubai.

Pogba, set to leave United this summer, is still weeks from making his return and has been building up his fitness with gym sessions at the complex, a favourite for players coming back from injury.

The Reds have a huge end to the season ahead of them, chasing Europa League and FA Cup glory, as well as a top-four place, with Solskjaer's side currently eighth, six points off fourth spot.

Next up for United is a trip to fourth-placed Chelsea a week on Monday, where defeat would almost certainly put an end to their hopes of claiming fourth place in the Premier League.

That could see Solskjaer switch his focus to winning the Europa League, just as Jose Mourinho did with United three years ago, as a way of getting back into the Champions League.

For now, though, Solskjaer is hoping the warm-weather break, perfectly timed with the UK battered by the high winds and driving rain of Storm Ciara, is just the tonic his United players need.

“We're playing Chelsea on Monday, so we'll get together and have a good camp, working on different things,” said Solskjaer.

“Of course, we've got a few new players, so hopefully we can integrate them into the squad.”
