Man Utd starlet Hannibal Mejbri rated by club's academy coach

Man Utd hold "high hopes" for youngster Hannibal Mejbri after the starlet's positive start to life at the club.

The 17-year-old joined United last summer in a £9million switch from Monaco, and has since been learning his trade in the Red Devils' youth system.

Mejbri is part of the academy under-18's side managed by United coach Neil Ryan, who have reached the FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

And Ryan was full of praise for the France youth international when quizzed on his progress by MEN.

“He comes with a high reputation, good player, lovely character, good kid,” Ryan said. “He’s working very hard and like every young kid in the club, he is learning still and we are seeing some really positive things from him on the pitch.

“He is part of a group of boys who are trying to push on and develop. They are all at stages in their career and it’s not just him. It’s a group of 28-30 players. He is one of a number of boys we have high hopes for."

United beat off interest from a number of interested clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona to land the then-16-year-old.

Mejbri and his family had fallen out with Monaco, convincing the youngster to accept a move elsewhere.

His promising start at United has seen him also called up to the under-23's, and he is already targeting a first-team debut.

Mejbri is among the latest crop bidding to achieve just that, and Ryan is hopeful at least some of those talents can be one day held in the same regard as the likes of Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford.

Ryan added: "That’s our job it’s to follow in the footsteps of these great players and our job as coaches is to follow in the footsteps of the great coaches previously.”
