Man Utd 'scouts watch Wayne Rooney's DC United teammate' after PSG cool interest

Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to check on Wayne Rooney's teammate Luciano Acosta.

Acosta, 24, was tipped to join PSG in January after a stunning MLS campaign with DC United.

The Argentine was identified as a possible replacement for injured superstar Neymar with an £8.6m deal reportedly agreed with DC United.

PSG opted against completing the transfer and now United are keeping tabs on the situation.

United scouts have been sent to watch Acosta in action after he was praised by former Old Trafford skipper Rooney, reports the Athletic.

Man Utd make decision on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's summer transfer budget

"He needs to keep motivated. He’s a professional player, I’m sure he will," Rooney said back in February.

"He now knows what kind of teams are interested in him. If he continues performing up to his ability, he will get there.

"He’s young and he’s talented, one of the best I’ve played with."

Acosta scored 10 times last season but has failed to replicate that form during the current MLS campaign.

On United's interest, he said: "I’m obviously happy (Manchester United) was here—they came to see me, and obviously I just went out and tried my best.

"Today wasn’t my day, we were up against a great opponent and in reality I’m just sad for the group’s performance today, and mine too."
