Manchester United will be looking to return to winning ways against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Monday night after being held to a frustrating 1–1 draw by struggling West Ham United last time out.
A victory over Wolves, who sit bottom of the table with just two points, would see Ruben Amorim’s side move level on points with Chelsea, who drew with Bournemouth on Saturday and were not long ago considered genuine title contenders.
It’s a stark contrast to United’s position at this stage last season, when they were 14th after 14 games and flirting with relegation.
Despite United’s strong start, Wolves should not be underestimated. The Midlands side beat the Red Devils twice last season, completing a Premier League double in 2024–25. United also face injury concerns, with Benjamin Šeško and Harry Maguire ruled out.
Here’s how United could line up against Wolves.
Man Utd Predicted Lineup vs. Wolves (3-4-2-1)
GK: Senne Lammens—Lammens has been a steady presence between the sticks this season, a welcome change from the chaos of André Onana. With Wolves’ struggling attack, he’s unlikely to be overly tested.
CB: Leny Yoro—After a challenging outing against Crystal Palace, Yoro was replaced by young Ayden Heaven against West Ham. The youngster, however, struggled—so much so that he was replaced by his French teammate after the break—meaning Yoro is expected to return to the starting XI.
CB: Matthijs de Ligt—The Dutch defender missed the West Ham clash due to injury but is expected to return fit for the Wolves game. His presence will be a welcome boost to United’s backline.
CB: Luke Shaw—Shaw has started every Premier League match this season, leaving his injury troubles firmly in the past.
RM: Amad Diallo—With Wolves likely to deploy a back three, Diallo will have more defensive responsibilities than he did against the Hammers, but he remains a potent threat on the counter.
CM: Casemiro—One of the first names on Amorim’s teamsheet at the moment. The Brazilian is back to his best in the engine room, contributing crucial goals along the way.
CM: Bruno Fernandes—Unsurprisingly, Fernandes was United’s standout performer against West Ham, creating five chances—the most in the match. He’s a guaranteed starter.
LM: Diogo Dalot—Amorim expects Dalot to be fit despite a recent knock. The Portuguese fullback scored against West Ham and United struggled after he was taken off.
RF: Bryan Mbeumo—United’s most potent attacking threat this season, Mbeumo has six goals across all competitions and is always dangerous on the ball. He’s previously enjoyed scoring against Wolves during his Brentford days.
LF: Matheus Cunha—Though he’s struggled to find the net for United, Cunha has impressed with his clever link-up play and intelligent movement in the final third. A couple of goals against his former side could be just the spark he needs to rediscover his scoring touch.
