Man Utd outcast Fred 'likes' post claiming he is better than team-mate

Manchester United midfielder Fred has appeared to show his discontent at his current position in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad by liking an Instagram post claiming he is better than team-mate Jesse Lingard.

Fred, 26, joined the Red Devils from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £52million deal last summer but struggled in his first season at Old Trafford, making just 25 appearances in all competitions.

The Brazilian started just seven games for United following Solskjaer's arrival in December and has not been included in the matchday squad for any of the club's opening matches of the new campaign.

Instead, Solskjaer has opted to utilise younger players in his side's opening games, with Lingard, Scott McTominay, Daniel James and Andreas Pereira among those to feature in the midfield alongside more experienced names such as Paul Pogba and Juan Mata.

And Fred seemed to show his frustration on social media platform Instagram following his latest omission during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Southampton .

On a post showing United's Europa League group, the midfielder 'liked' a comment from a supporter which read: "Fred better than Lingard".

After a difficult year with the United, the Brazilian was heavily linked with a departure from the club this summer.

Serie A club Fiorentina were among those believed to be interested, but a move never materialised for the 26-year-old after reports that he received assurances of first-team football from Solskjaer, provided that he worked hard in training.

However, even the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini do not appear to have improved Fred's situation with Solskjaer favouring younger prospects.

He is the latest United player to use Instagram in a similar way after Nemanja Matic liked a post which seemed to criticise the United boss.
