Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag's long-term vision as £16m scouting mission launched

Erik ten Hag has laid out his five-year plan for Manchester United with the Dutchman set to take the manager's job at Old Trafford.

The Ajax boss is said to have agreed terms with United bosses following several weeks of talks and looks set to join the club this summer. And details of his successful interview with John Murtough and Darren Fletcher have started to emerge – as the Dutchman laid out his five-year plan for the Red Devils.

It comes as the Old Trafford outfit are reportedly preparing to launch a huge mission to find Ten Hag's first signing. And United's reasons for snubbing Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino have been revealed.

Reason for Pochettino snub

United chiefs moved their attentions on from PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino over concerns about his "lack of trophies".

The former Spurs manager had been an initial frontrunner for the United job alongside Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has struck a verbal agreement to succeed Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford. But senior figures raised doubts over Pochettino''s "lack of trophies" with the PSG boss having only won one French Cup and a domestic Super Cup in his time as a manager.

Those same figures are said to have been left very impressed with Ten Hag's ability to build two great Ajax sides – as well as the two Dutch league and cup doubles he has won.

Scouting mission launched

Manchester United scouts are reportedly set to travel to Argentina this week to take a look at a player who could become Erik ten Hag's first signing at Old Trafford.

Reports coming out of Argentina suggest United are keen on River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez who has contributed to six goals across 10 games in 2022. The versatile midfielder is said to have a £16millioon release clause written into his contract and his entourage have reportedly already held talks with United chiefs.

But they could face competition for his signature, with the player also said to be in talks with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
