Man Utd news: Ashley Young driven by doubters in pursuit of famous comeback vs PSG in Champions League

Ashley Young claims Manchester United being written off will drive them on in their bid to pull off a comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The French champions have a 2-0 aggregate lead heading into the second leg of the last 16 tie in Paris.

And after a 3-2 win over Southampton to boost their top four hopes, Young believes United can turn the tie around at the Parc des Princes.

“We know what we’re capable of,” Young said. “People can write us off. People were writing us off at the start of the season and people are writing us off now.

“It’s no different. Obviously it’s going to be tough. It’s not going to be easy. We’ve got to go over there, win the game and score goals.

“I’ve got every faith if we defend well and if we create the chance that I know we can do, we can win the game.”

Young insists the focus is firstly on winning the game before turning attention to bridging the two-goal gap.

“Yeah, win the game,” Young adds. “That’s exactly what it is. We’ve got to go out there and win the game. We can’t worry too much about them, it’s all about us.”

Paul Pogba is suspended for the second leg, complicating United’s hopes, but Young believes the squad can cope.

“We’ve had that for the last couple of games,” Young points out. “There have been players who have been missing and at this time of the season it’s not ideal.

“There are players who are ready to come in and fill their boots. Everyone has got to be ready and I’m sure whoever comes in for Paul will go and do their job the best they can.”
