Man Utd make 'interested phone calls' to hijack Liverpool bid for €80m star as Jurgen Klopp prioritises two transfers

The latest transfer rumours from the Premier League and around the world

Man Utd to hijack Liverpool bid for star

Reports from Italy state Manchester United are ready to rival Liverpool for €80m-rated Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The 26-year-old is being eyed by a number of Premier League teams, including Newcastle United, after his strong showing in the Champions League last season.

Jurgen Klopp is weighing up an offer for the Italian but United and the Magpies are also in the mix, say Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Interested phone calls" have been made from Old Trafford to Inter, they state, with United the "far more attractive" destination for Barella than St James' Park.

Inter will reluctantly seek €80million (£68.8million) for him this summer. United appear out of the Declan Rice race so could turn their attentions to Barella.

Chelsea give Man United Mount green light

The Athletic report Chelsea will not stand in Mason Mount's way in a move to Manchester United - but the Blues are demanding the Old Trafford club up their offer.

United are long-term admirers of England man Mount, who is one of a number of players set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in a mass clearout.

The same publication report an improved offer of £45million plus £5million in add-ons has been made for the attacking midfielder but the west London side are requesting a fee of £60million plus £5million add-ons.

An agreement is getting closer, the report states.

Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Hakim Ziyech are all on their way out at Chelsea, with N'Golo Kante having already left.

Man City gatecrash Rice race

Premier League champions Manchester City are preparing a serious offer for West Ham United skipper Declan Rice.

Arsenal have seen two bids knocked back for the box-to-box midfielder and seemed well placed to get a deal over the line, despite the Hammers' insistence over the price tag.

Arsenal's last offer was £75million up front and £15million in add-ons, which the east Londoners rejected. It is understood they want more money in the initial transfer.

Now, with Man City firmly in the mix, the Hammers could benefit from a bidding war for their star man.

The Athletic state a bid will be lodged soon for the 24-year-old from City.

Klopp's priorities

Respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Jurgen Klopp is prioritising two transfers this summer.

Liverpool have been linked with a host of names this window as they look to bridge the gap back to the top four after a poor season last term.

The midfield looks to be area the German manager is focusing on at present amid interest in Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch.

“Liverpool appreciate Gravenberch, for sure. But for now their focus remains on Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone,” Romano said. “For Gravenberch, Bayern’s position is crucial as they don’t want to sell him, but conversations between the player, club and manager Thomas Tuchel will take place soon to clarify the situation.”
