Man Utd 'made four offers' for Jadon Sancho during summer transfer saga

Manchester United reportedly failed with four separate bids for Jadon Sancho during their ill-fated transfer pursuit in the summer.

The 20-year-old was United's top target and Borussia Dortmund were open to selling their star man if their £108million valuation was met.

United felt Dortmund's asking price was too high in the current climate after the drastic impact of coronavirus on club finances.

Nevertheless, the German club held firm and were adamant Sancho would not be sold for a lesser amount, even setting a deadline for the deal to be done by.

According to respected football pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft (speaking on the Here We Go podcast ), United tested Dortmund's resolve with multiple offers for Sancho, but ultimately fell short of their demands.

Reports early in the transfer window claimed United had opened the bidding with a £50m offer for Sancho.

United chief Ed Woodward had hoped to drive Sancho's price tag down by offering fees closer to their valuation, but that only made Dortmund more insistent on keeping the winger.

After weeks of deadlock, United eventually submitted a last-ditch bid to try and tempt Dortmund into a sale late in the window, worth a reported £91.3m, but to no avail.

Since then Sancho has suffered indifferent form, which Dortmund boss Lucien Favre suggested may be a direct result of the unsettling transfer speculation.

But Sancho rejected that notion while on international duty with England.

Asked whether the rumours had affected him, Sancho replied: "No, I don’t think so.

"Every player has a little dip in their career and I feel like I’m going through that at the moment.

"It is just how I am bouncing back and I’m just happy to have managers who have faith in me and keep starting me."

Latest reports now claim United are looking to open fresh negotiations with Dortmund early in 2021.

Acquiring Sancho in the January window is almost impossible, but United chiefs want to wrap up a deal before the European Championships start in the summer.
