Man Utd 'interested' in Braga starlet as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes January plans

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Braga star David Carmo as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ramps up his search for a left-sided centre-back.

Carmo, 21, has impressed for the Portuguese club this season and played 90 minutes in the Europa League defeat to Leicester last week.

Standing at 6'4", the former Portugal youth international has a strong physical presence and has caught the attention of Old Trafford chiefs on account of being left-footed.

Solskjaer is keen to add a natural left-sided player to partner Harry Maguire in central defence after United missed out on Nathan Ake, who joined Manchester City for £40million last summer.

Carmo is firmly on the Red Devils' radar according to ESPN , though the report adds they will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals and other European sides to land the highly-rated youngster.

Further, United's pursuit relies on the club managing to offload out-of-favour duo Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, both of whom were left out of this season's squad for the Champions League.

Neither defender has played this season, with Jones' last United appearance coming in the Carabao Cup in January and Rojo's in October 2019.

Meanwhile, Carmo was linked with moves to Serie A sides Fiorentina and Roma last summer, though no bids were submitted and he remains tied down to Braga until 2025.

Previously an academy player with Portuguese giants Benfica, Carmo made his Primeira Liga debut in January.

He was also a part of the Portugal team which won the Under-19 European Championship two years ago.

Carmo started all five of Braga's opening league games of the season but has missed the last two as he serves a red-card suspension for his sending off in the 1-0 win at Vitoria Guimaraes last month.
