Man Utd handed Jack Grealish transfer boost as Aston Villa 'may have to sell captain'

Aston Villa may have to sell their prized assets to meet FFP rules - including skipper Jack Grealish.

Grealish, 24, is having a fine campaign under Dean Smith, with Villa sat in 17th in the Premier League.

His performances have led to calls for Gareth Southgate to include him in his England plans, while Manchester United are keeping tabs on him with the view to a summer move.

And Villa may be forced to cash in with the newly-promoted side reportedly in danger of breaching FFP rules.

The Mail reports they must raise millions in player sales or by dropping their wage bill to meet the guidelines.

Grealish is Villa's biggest asset while there is also likely to be interest in midfielder John McGinn.

Smith will be hopeful slashing the wage budget will ensure quickfire sales are not necessary.

Grealish was given a rare rest in midweek as he was an unused substitute for the EFL Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool .

Villa will now face Leicester over two legs in the semi-final as they bid to reach the final for the first time since 2010.

Villa face a crucial run of fixtures in the Premier League over the festive period as they bid to climb away from trouble.

They host fellow strugglers Southampton on Saturday before welcoming Norwich to Villa Park on Boxing Day.

Villa then travel to rock bottom Watford and face a trip to Burnley on New Year's Day.
