Man Utd given Bruno Fernandes boost as Sporting Lisbon 'identify replacement'

Manchester United's proposed move for Bruno Fernandes continues to edge nearer as Sporting Lisbon have now reportedly identified his replacement.

The 24-year-old midfielder is expected to complete a switch to Old Trafford after Sporting's Super Cup clash with rivals Benfica on Sunday.

Speculation suggests that a deal has already been agreed in principle between all parties, but both clubs are yet to confirm anything concrete is in place.

But United have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit, as the Star cite reports that Sporting are lining up a move for Lucas Robertone.

The Velez Sarsfield midfielder is seen as an ideal option to fill the void left by Fernandes should he depart.

Record report that Sporting are yet to make a formal approach for the 22-year-old, but are aware of his club's valuation.

Sporting are allegedly waiting for Fernandes to depart the club before making a move for Robertone.

But the Portuguese club will not let their star player go until he has fulfilled first-team duties in Sunday's clash with Benfica.

Fernandes is set to lead his team out as captain in what could be his final appearance for the club.

The emotion of his departure proved too much for Fernandes in Sporting's recent friendly match against Valencia at their home stadium.

Fernandes broke down in tears as he left the field after being substituted, before welling up again at the final whistle.

United are hopeful of completing a deal for Fernandes, as well as a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Juventus ' Paulo Dybala.

The Red Devils are in talks with Juve chiefs over a proposed transfer after Dybala held showdown talks with boss Mauirizo Sarri on Wednesday.

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici is believed to be in Manchester to discuss a potential deal.

The Serie A club are also said to be interested in signing United full-back Matteo Darmian.
