Man Utd fans make Ed Woodward decision as Rio Ferdinand details brutal treatment

Manchester United fans have made a decision about chief executive Ed Woodward after club legend Rio Ferdinand detailed his brutal treatment at the club.

The Englishman spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford, making more than 450 appearances while winning six Premier League titles and a Champions League honour.

But his last season in red, the year after Sir Alex Ferguson retired, saw him depart after making just 23 appearances.

And the former defender has detailed the brutal way Woodward let him know he was leaving the club.

Speaking to The High Performance Podcast in April, Ferdinand said: “I’ve not even said goodbye to the fans. There wasn’t a parting of the ways.

“You normally get an idea of whether you’ll get moved on or not a couple of days before the end of the season.

“Someone normally comes up to you, the CEO Ed Woodward, to say ‘we’re not giving you a new deal’ or ‘we know you’re not going to sign, so look for pastures new’. I didn’t get either of them.

“On the last day of the [2013/14] season, we played Southampton. The game finished and I went into the changing room.

“The directors always come into the dressing room to shake the players’ hands, Bobby Charlton and Ed Woodward.

“He sat next to me after the game, with my boots still on, and said ‘we’re not going to renew your contract. Thanks for your services at the club. You’re free to go on’.”

“I thought ‘surely you could have given me a heads up before and given me a goodbye’ but I was just numb.

“It got to so late in the season, I though there would be a role for me because they surely would have told me before this day.

“But it never happened and I thought I deserved to say goodbye to the fans, the staff.

“I was bitter for a little while. That was what got me thinking that this is not being run properly. This is not how the best team in the world should be doing things.”

This clip was shared on Twitter by a fan channel on Sunday, where the United faithful made a decision about the chief.

“We need Woodward out - how can you treat a legend like that,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “This is a disgrace. Get Ed Woodward out of my club.”

While a third wrote: “This actually makes me feel sick. Tells you everything about the person running the club.”

And a fourth simply added: “Simply disgraceful.”

With a fifth saying: “This is the last straw for me. I’m not buying anymore merchandise until that idiot Woodward is gone.”

It comes as the United chief appeared to drop a transfer message about Jadon Sancho in his programme notes ahead of the club’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
