Eric Bailly has suffered a fresh injury setback after sustaining ankle damage in Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham.
The centre-back lasted just nine minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute at the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai.
It was only his third game since undergoing a knee operation for medial ligament damage, which ruled him out of the end of last season.
Bailly had been determined to make an impression on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer amid United’s pursuit of Harry Maguire.
Solskjaer is likely to allow at least one of his current crop of six centre-backs to leave if United secure the signing of the Leicester defender.
Bailly is one of those who looks under threat, along with Marcos Rojo.
But United will have to assess the extent of his injury after leaving the pitch on a stretcher when landing awkwardly on his left ankle.
He was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe, who United are still decide if they will send out on loan next season.
