A man who used vile homophobic slurs against police officers while being arrested has been jailed.
William White, 45, called officers 'homos', 'faggots' and 'queers' as they tried to detain him following a disturbance at an address in Salford.
Police had already removed White from the property earlier in the evening after he was found arguing with a woman.
Despite being warned he would be arrested if he failed to stay away, he later returned to the address and started 'throwing things'.
At the time of the incident, White was subject to a suspended sentence given to him last summer.
He was spared prison by a judge in July after stealing a car during a wedding at Bolton School.
After admitting to breaching the sentence and resisting arrest, he was jailed for 10 months at Bolton Crown Court today.
Prosecutor Gwen Henshaw said police had responded to reports of an ongoing disturbance at a property in Whittle Grove, Worsley, at about 6.15pm on January 9.
When they arrived, they found White arguing with a woman called Angela Finlay.
"Both appeared to be in drink," said Ms Henshaw.
"Ms Finlay wanted him to leave. He said he was getting his belongings and would leave.
"She just wanted him to be removed from the address. As a result, he was told not to return and that he would arrested for a breach of the peace if he did."
Officers took White to another property and warned him to stay away from Ms Finlay's address.
However, police were called to reports of another disturbance at the same property later that evening.
The court heard Ms Finlay had allowed White back in as 'she felt sorry for him because he was homeless'. However, he then started throwing items and refusing to leave.
When officers showed up, they saw White leaving the address and shouting 'f****** slag'.
He was arrested but denied having returned to the address, claiming he had been visiting a neighbouring property.
White then turned aggressive towards police, resulting in four officers trying to restrain him.
He began 'thrashing around and shouting expletives', threatening to 'stick one on' one officer and trying to push another over.
When knocked to the floor himself, he directed a string of homophobic slurs at police, calling them 'homos', 'faggots' and 'queers'.
"He thrashed around so much he caused injury to himself and had to be taken to hospital," said Ms Henshaw.
He was later found to have suffered a broken arm, but claimed he could not remember how he had sustained the injury.
Mitigating, Nick Ross, said White had been staying at the address with Ms Finlay, but their relationship had turned 'fractious'.

He added: "As a result of tensions between him and Ms Finlay, he was coming and going to an extent. Things were very difficult in their relationship."
Mr Ross said that White, who has 56 previous convictions for 118 offences, was 'very remorseful' over his actions.
"While he has limited recollection, he wants to say he is very sorry indeed," he added.
"He says he has had enough of offending. He is fed up of coming to court and understands he has to take a long look in the mirror.
"It is all down to him and he understands that."
White, of Watergate Lane, in Farnworth, was spared jail last July after pleading guilty to burglary, aggravated vehicle taking and having no insurance.
In August 2018, a wedding was being held at Bolton School, in Chorley New Road.
White was present and when challenged by a member of staff, he claimed to be looking for the toilet.
Later that evening, a worker reported their Ford Fiesta as having been stolen from the car park.
Police located the vehicle on the M6 in Lancashire that same evening. Inside were White and his accomplice Gemma Higginson.
Sentencing White, Judge Graeme Smith told him that the homophobic language he had used was 'wholly unacceptable'.
He added: "Your offending is exacerbated by the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic.
"Police officers are in a particularly vulnerable position. In having to scuffle with you at length, they are putting themselves even more at risk than they usually are."
