Man United's James Garner plan outlined as Steve Cooper sends Nottingham Forest message

Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Sunday, April 10, 2022.

Impossible becomes possible

They couldn’t, could they? Seven games to go. A six-point gap to Bournemouth, with the Cherries still to play. Not only is the race for the play-offs pretty lively, Nottingham Forest have suddenly made the fight for second place interesting. A perfect week, with three wins from three, has given the Championship table a very healthy shine.

The priority remains to keep the unbeaten run going. There would be no point having got this far only to suffer a horrible collapse and fall out of the top-six completely. Complacency is a friend to nobody at this stage of the season.

Man United’s James Garner plan

Manchester United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick plans to analyse the impressive performances of Nottingham Forest loan midfielder James Garner in the coming fortnight.

Rangnick is in charge at United at the moment, overseeing a 1-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday as their poor form continued. But from next season he will take on a consultancy role at Old Trafford that could see him aid the incoming manager, as well as the club’s recruitment team.

Having a handle on the performances of the United’s loanees will be a key part of the job, and Rangnick has said he plans to take a closer look at Garner’s displays for Forest soon. He has heard good things, suggesting the 21-year-old could be someone he recommends for a place in the United squad for next season.

Neil Ethridge update

Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has confirmed that goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has been taken to hospital after a collision with Djed Spence.

Forest were 1-0 up thanks to Keinan Davis’ opener in just the fifth minute of the match. Steve Cooper ’s men held the narrow advantage when the collision happened someway outside of the penalty area, with instant concern for the goalkeeper

The Birmingham man received treatment on the pitch for almost 10 minutes before being stretchered off the pitch. He was replaced by substitute shot-stopper Connal Trueman with it not taking long for Forest to double their lead through Scott McKenna .

Steve Cooper’s message

Steve Cooper played down Nottingham Forest climbing to third in the table after their 2-0 victory over Birmingham City.

The Reds made it five league wins on the spin and 10 unbeaten in the Championship as they eased past the Blues at the City Ground. Goals from Keinan Davis and Scott McKenna rounded off what has been a perfect week for Cooper’s side since returning from the international break.

They are now only six points off second-placed Bournemouth, with a game against the Cherries still to come. The Forest head coach, however, insists his only focus is on keeping a good run going, with a trip to top-six rivals Luton Town to come next Friday.
