Man United can copy Bayern Munich to avoid losing Alejandro Garnacho for possible FA Cup final

Manchester United face a difficult decision on Alejandro Garnacho after the youngster was included in the Argentina squad for the U20 World Cup in May.

Garnacho, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, was selected to represent his country by Argentina U20 manager Javier Mascherano. However, with the tournament starting on May 20, the Reds ace would be out of action for the club's end of season run-in. The young attacker would miss United's final two Premier League games against Bournemouth and Fulham, as well as a potential FA Cup final on June 3.

According to reports, Mascherano will travel to England on Monday to speak with United and other relevant clubs about the situation ahead of the tournament. The Reds understandably want the 18-year-old to be part of their squad for the final month or so, especially given that he has been absent through injury since March.

FIFA rules state: "Clubs are obliged to release their registered players to representative teams of the country for which the player is eligible to play on the basis of his nationality if they are called by the association concerned."

However, while rules state an agreement about involvement can't be met between clubs and countries, they are not compulsory outside specified international windows.

United could take a leaf out of Bayern Munich's book from 2019, when he Bundesliga giants refused to let Woo-yeong Jeong represent South Korea.

Should Erik ten Hag's men overcome Brighton in their FA Cup semi-final clash on Sunday, the club will want Garnacho to be part of the squad for the final in early June.

Garnacho has enjoyed a productive breakthrough campaign this term, registering four goals and five assists in 29 appearances prior to his ankle injury last month. The attacker has played four times for Argentina's U20s, where he has scored four times.
