Man United can challenge Liverpool and Man City for the title by completing Tottenham transfer

Former England striker Kevin Phillips believes Manchester United can make themselves Premier League challenges by completing a deal to sign Harry Kane.

A report by Standard Sport claims that United have their eyes set on doing a deal for Kane this summer, and would not be put off by Tottenham Hotspur 's £200million valuation.

Jose Mourinho's side have understood to have made clear that the forward is not for sale but rumours in the media have suggested that Kane himself may have the final say.

Despite his individual success, Kane is yet to win a trophy - something that Phillips says must change sooner rather than later for the 26-year-old.

Harry Kane delivers message to his biggest fan Archie

"Losing the UCL final last year, Tottenham moving into their new stadium, I felt it's time now for Tottenham to win a trophy, but for Harry Kane as well," he told Sky Sports.

"He's won golden boots, but now it's time for a player of his quality to win Championships, Champions Leagues, cups.

"It would be a shame if he was to miss out on that in his career.

"I think Harry Kane mooted going to Manchester United, of course, he would be a wonderful fit for them and that would make Manchester United challengers for the Premier League next season."

"Harry Kane would make any of the top clubs Premier League contenders. He's a top-class player."
