Man 'tried to get phone signal' by crouching in stranger's garden

A warning has been issued after a man was seen crouching down in strangers' gardens yesterday.

Police published the warning to residents in Burscough after it was reported that a man was seen "acting suspiciously" in the Junction Lane area of the town around 5.40pm on Wednesday, June 22. The man was said to be crouching down in a resident's garden and when asked what he was doing he said he was trying to get signal on his phone.

Officers attended to speak to the man but he had left the area. People in the area have been reminded that there have been a number of break-ins recently and anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to report it to police.

The statement sent to those in the area said: "We are asking people to be on their guard after a male was seen acting suspiciously in the Junction Lane area of Burscough. The male was seen at around 17:40hrs today, Wednesday 22nd June and was crouching down in a residents' garden.

"When questioned by a member of the public the male said he was trying to get a signal on his phone. Officers attended to speak to the male but he had left the area. There have been several break-ins recently in Burscough and the surrounding areas so if you see anything suspicious or if you have any information you think could help us, please call us on 101.
