Man trapped under tree survives for 4 days living off insects, plants and his sweat

A man who was trapped under a fallen tree survived for four days by eating insects and plants and drinking his own sweat.

Jonathan Ceplecha was cutting oak trees behind his home when due to a freak accident both his legs became pinned under a log.

His legs were broken instantly and his upper torso was part twisted as he sat upright on the ground in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.

Jonathan didn't have a phone on him and as he lives alone, there was no one to immediately discover him when he became trapped on August 27.

Jonathan ate plants and insects within arm's reach and drank sweat and rainwater that he collected in his clothes, a gofundme states.

He covered his head in his shirt during the nights to keep the insects off as he slept.

The fundraising page set up for him says: "He kept his sanity by breaking down every day into hours, and each hour into 5-minute segments.

"As someone of a heavy faith, he prayed to himself often, and tried to distract himself from panic by meditating and inventing rhythms to follow from dawn to dusk."

Jonathan was found four days later by his ex wife after his family grew concerned that he was not answering his phone calls.

Rescue workers carefully removed the log from him and he was flown to a hospital where he was put in an intensive care unit.

He has already undergone surgery and it is believed both of his legs will be saved.

But he faces a long road to recovery, the fundraising page says.

It adds: "He is a true survivor in every sense of the word.

"He is also an Army veteran, a teacher, and a proud father."
