Man suffers serious injuries after stopping fireworks from hitting child at Bristol Rovers game

A heroic man has suffered serious injuries after stopping fireworks from hitting a child.

The incident happened during Bristol Rovers' defeat against Blackpool over the weekend.

Officers were called at 1:40pm on Sunday (May 9) after a man suffered injuries to his hand and arm in Seasiders Way, Blackpool.

The victim, aged in his 50s, was treated by officers at the scene and later taken to Royal Preston Hospital for further treatment.

Lancashire police has now launched an investigation and officers are urging witnesses to come forward.

A force spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information after a man suffered a serious injury in Blackpool.

"Around 1.40pm yesterday (Sunday, May 9) a man suffered serious injuries to his hand and arm in Seasiders Way, Blackpool.

"It was reported the man had suffered the injury after trying to move a pyrotechnic device which had been thrown close to a child.

"An investigation into the circumstances around the injury is ongoing.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident or who has any mobile phone footage.
