Man starts GoFundMe to get tattoo of wedding ring removed after marriage ends

On a wedding anniversary you might get your beloved partner a nice present or a weekend away for the two of you. But one man went much further as on his fourth anniversary he decided to get a tattoo of his wedding ring on his finger.

Zachery Smith, 37, from Indiana, USA, decided to get the tattoo on the fourth finger of his left hand as a replica of his wedding ring.

After being married to his wife for five years, the pair unfortunately split and now Zachery has started up a fundraising page so he can get the tattoo removed.

Zachery said: "I regularly have people compliment me on the tattoo and ask about it, which means I have to talk about it and the situation, it gets more exhausting every time."

The pair had been together for a total of nine years but tied the knot in 2016.

Having split from his wife he now just views the tattoo as a painful reminder of what he has lost and is hoping to raise the cash to get rid of it through laser removal so he can begin to move on.

He said: "The tattoo originally started as a heart on the inside of the same finger, which I got in 2015 as an engagement ring.

"I hope that at some point in the future, I'll be in the right emotional space to start dating and try to find a partner again, which makes the tattoo all the more painful and awkward to have."

Now Zachery hopes to raise the £500 for the removal as having lost his job and with a rising cost of living, he can't currently afford to get it removed himself.

So far, he has raised over £140 and says that any funds above his target will be donated to an animal rescue centre.
