Man stabbed on busy south London high street

A young man has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed near a Starbucks on a busy high street in south London.

Emergency services rushed to Streatham Hill at around 1pm on Monday following reports of a stabbing.

A man in his 20s was treated at the scene for a stab wound and the Met Police confirmed his injuries are not life-changing or life-threatening.

Footage from the incident appeared to show someone being treated by paramedics on the busy street.

One witness told the Standard they were left feeling “really uneasy and scared” following the attack.

Streatham resident Becky Gibbs described how she saw a young man bleeding.

She said: “There was blood on their neck and at the scene.

“They were then transported into the back of the ambulance by the medical staff. It looked like about five of them were working on them for quite a while directly outside of the door.”

She continued: “A person that was either at Starbucks or nearby stopped to help the person who was injured.“

Ms Gibbs explained that police cordoned off an area near a Starbucks and Marks and Spencer and a helicopter could be heard circling nearby.

There has been no evidence so far to suggest the incident involved a customer at either store.

Ms Gibbs added that there were at least three police cars as well as an unmarked police vehicle and several ambulances.

The Met Police confirmed that no arrests have been made yet.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said paramedics were called at 12.59pm to reports of a stabbing in Streatham Hill.

Ambulance crews, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance were sent to the scene.

A man was treated at the scene before being taken to a major trauma centre.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident – or who has information – is urged to call 101, quoting crime reference 3274/06OCT.
