Man stabbed in chest with key after stepping in when thugs called girlfriend 's**g' and 'sexy' in sickening city centre attack

A man was stabbed in the chest with a key after he challenged thugs harassing his girlfriend.

Two men shouted 's**g' and 'you're sexy' at the man's partner while she was sat on the pavement on Whitworth Street West in Manchester city centre.

They then pushed her to the floor.

When the woman's partner told them to leave her alone, around six men 'jumped him'.

They threw bricks at him and kicked him during the attack, which happened at 3am on Saturday (July 27).

The man's partner, a woman in her 20s, who asked not to be named, said: "They were just picking up bricks, saying they had knives.

"They were kicking him in the face. All over his body. They threw a brick at my boyfriend. They picked up another brick as well, I pushed it out of his hand."

"I was trying to grab them off him, saying 'leave him alone'.

Police are investigating the attack (Manchester Evening News)

"They stabbed my boyfriend in his chest. He's got a hole in his chest.

"When they realised I was shouting 'help', they ran off."

The men stole the woman's bag, which contained her mobile phone, passport, money and bank card.

Her boyfriend didn't need hospital treatment, but was left with a black eye and cuts to his face. The woman was left with bruises all over her body.

The woman said she has been left 'mentally scarred' by the incident.

"I didn't sleep at all," she added.

"I have bruises on my hip, ribs and bum. I'm never going to Manchester again. I never would have thought it would happen to me."

A spokeswoman for GMP confirmed officers were called to the scene. No arrests have been made.
