Man sought after 'tens of thousands of pounds' stolen in 'sophisticated' ATM fraud in Russell Square

Police have released a picture of a man they wish to speak to after tens of thousands of pounds were stolen from a victim’s bank account in a sophisticated case of ATM fraud in Russell Square.

The Metropolitan Police said the victim was withdrawing cash at an ATM at around 7.10pm on Saturday September 30.

The force has revealed a huge sum was stolen from the victim’s bank account over a number of days, following what it believes to be a "relatively sophisticated" fraud offence.

Enquiries have been ongoing to identify who may be responsible.

Police want to speak to anyone who may recognise the man in the released picture, as they believe he may be able to assist enquiries.

Detective Constable Evelyn Davies, who is leading the investigation, said: "Tens of thousands of pounds was removed from the victim’s bank account over a number of days, following what we believe to be a relatively sophisticated fraud offence.

"At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that this is part of a linked series.

"This is a distressing and hugely impactful crime type and we are working hard to identify whoever is responsible.

"Please make contact with us if you recognise the man in the image, or if this is you, please come forward."
