Man slashed in the head by masked gang in brutal street attack

A man suffered slash wounds to his head in a vicious assault in Bootle.

Police were called to Marsh Avenue at 8.05pm on Sunday after reports that a 26-year-old man had been attacked by three males, all with their faces covered.

He was taken to hospital with slash wounds to his head. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The area was cordoned off and an investigation is underway, with house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries being carried out in the local area.

Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: "At this stage we believe the attack to be targeted. It is thought that three males, all of who had their faces covered, were involved in the incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around Marsh Avenue or Southport Road last night who may have seen anyone or anything suspicious to contact us."
