Some tattooists refuse to ink the names of partners on people's skin, no matter how loved up they are.
That's because if the relationship doesn't work out year down the line, that person is left with a permanent reminder of their failed romance, which is painful and expensive to remove.
But some people insist on getting their lover's name etched on their skin, and are left wondering what to do when it all goes pear-shaped.
One dad had a rather inventive idea for how to amend his tattoo after a messy split from his ex-wife.
He decided to get "rot in hell" written over her name alongside a tombstone - something he thought was hilarious.

However, he shares an eight-year-old daughter with his ex-wife, and she's heartbroken about the mean-spirited inking on her dad's body.
Taking to Reddit, he wrote: "When I went over to her apartment to pick up my daughter (8f) she pointed out the work I got on my tattoo.
"I asked if she liked, she just laughed awkwardly and that was the end of it for now. Later that night I’m watching TV with my daughter and my phone start going off like crazy, it was my ex.

"She was saying how hurtful it was to see what I did to the tattoo, and how I should’ve gotten it removed. I feel kinda bad after talking to her about the tattoo, so was I the a**hole?"
He added that his ex-wife had simply got her tattoo of his name removed.
Commenters generally agreed that the dad was in the wrong, given how hard divorce is for children even without having to see their mum's name next to a tombstone.
"As someone whose parents divorced let me assure you that this kind of s****iness hurts your kid 1000 times more than it hurts your ex," wrote one.
"It’s just such a bitter thing to ink permanently on your body when you should be trying to move on, and will likely impact your dating life in the future since women really don’t find this type of s*** cute," added another.
A third penned: "Your hate for your wife should not out weigh your love for your child. You are a parent and the adult. You hurt your child by doing this, because this is her mother.
"She didn’t ask to be in the middle of this s*** show. Show some restraint. I’m sorry that happened to you, but you need to think about someone else’s hurt than yours. It’s just not all about you. Please see the bigger picture."
