A 28-year-old man was shot multiple times Sunday night near a park in Rogers Park on the North Side.

The man told officers he was near Pottawattomie Park, in the 7300 block of North Rogers Avenue about 7:20 p.m., when he heard shots and felt pain, Chicago police said.

Six shell casings could be seen in the street as officers investigated the scene, which was separated from the park’s playground by a black steel fence.

The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

An elotera was selling corn, chicharrónes and more from her stand — which had two large rainbow umbrellas and 10 flavors of shaved ice — when the shots rang out.

She and her 11-year-old son ducked behind the cart for safety.

The woman said through a translator that she is afraid all the time, not just for her and her family, but for the community as a whole. She called for more surveillance cameras and a larger police presence in Rogers Park to stem gun violence.

On May 22, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the 2000 block of West Touhy Avenue, about two blocks from the elotera’s stand. The woman, who asked not to be identified, said she heard those gunshots.

No one was in custody for the shooting Sunday night as police were investigating.
