Man shot in West Elsdon attempted robbery

A man was shot Tuesday in an attempted robbery in West Elsdon on the Southwest Side.

The 54-year-old was outside about 2:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of West 59th Street when another male walked up and tried to rob him, Chicago police said.

An altercation ensued and the male ended up shooting the 54-year-old in the right leg, police said. The man was taken to Holy Cross hospital where his condition was stabilized.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
