Man shocked after parents invite ex-wife and cheating best friend to family party

A man has been caught between a rock and a hard place after his ex-wife and former best friend were invited to a party thrown by his own parents. The scorn of past lovers never really goes away with one man facing an awkward situation.

Add to the sadness of a breakup and the man revealed it was his former best friend who got together with his wife after their marriage ended with both being handed an invite to an upcoming garden party, reports the Mirror.

The anonymous man admits he was baffled by his parent's insistence on inviting the pair to the family gathering, one which he would be expected to attend while the new couple, and their one-year-old baby, were also present.

The man revealed the moment his mum and dad informed him they were desperate to meet the new baby and that the pair would be coming to their annual party.

He posted the awkward dilemma on Reddit, saying: "I (32M) have been divorced from my ex-wife Elle (32F) for four years. It was not a nice thing. She and my ex-best friend Silas (25M) have been married for three years and have a one-year-old baby.

"My parents and Elle's parents were long-time family friends and that didn't stop after our divorce. My parents are hosting their yearly 'garden party' which is just an excuse for them to catch up and gossip with the other seniors.

"I was visiting my parents when they told me that Silas and Elle would be in town and they were invited to the garden party. My parents can't wait to meet their baby."

He then issued an ultimatum to his parents that if the pair were attending, he simply wasn't.

He added: "I told them no they are not coming. My parents didn't budge and said they would not be rude enough to retract an invitation after Elle and Silas agreed. I said no one wants their ex-wife at their parents' party. My parents said I could be polite for one day. They really want to meet the baby and catch up with them.

"I made an ultimatum that it was either me or them. I would not attend if they came. My parents called me an a**hole for making them choose as Silas and Elle hadn't asked it and potentially making Elle's parents think badly of them. Am I the a**hole?"

There were, however, some key factors to the man's relationship later revealed as the poster of the message admitted he had cheated on ex-wife Elie with a co-worker before she filed for divorce. He claims she was suffering from a medical issue and 'wasn't in the mood for anything'.

This caused quite the stir in the comments, with the community on Reddit fully against the man for now being hung up about attending the party.

One furiously posted: "You cheated on your wife and everyone took her side. I do not care if it was just a kiss. You cheated and from what you told us she did not, you just think she did because she moved on fast and you are obviously projecting.

"You chose to date the daughter of a family friend and then chose to cheat on her. You can not expect your family to then cut her out. They do not even know her through you. You know her through them. Welcome to the consequences of your own actions."

Another went further: "You're the a**hole and actually I would say the same thing even if the original poster hadn't cheated. Considering the circumstances, it would be unreasonable to expect the parents to cut the ex-wife out unless her behaviour had been super egregious and awful. They have an independent relationship with her that's probably pretty important to them."
