Man seriously injured after car flips in drink driving crash in Barry

A man has been left in serious condition following a drink driving crash on Saturday morning.

South Wales Police were called to a crash on Ffordd Y Mileniwm in Barry just before 2am where a grey Ford Focus was found upside down on the road.

Photos taken at the scene show significant damage to the car and debris scattered across the road.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries (South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit)

Sharing the images on Twitter, the South Wales Roads Policing Unit wrote: "The dangers of drink driving. Thankfully he was wearing a seat belt. Driver taken to hospital, 56 roadside."

The drink-driving limit for drivers in Wales is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath or 107 milligrams per 100 millilitres of urine.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the 23 year-old driver, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales.

They added: "His injuries are said to be serious but not life threatening. An investigation into the collision is now underway."
