Piano-playing man finds sweet note left by neighbours on night of US election

This is an incredibly stressful time for Americans as they wait to see who will win the election.

The slow trickle of results means we may not know for several days whether President Donald Trump or Joe Biden will end up in the White House,

In the meantime, people have been trying to find ways to distract themselves.

One kindhearted Canadian went viral after offering emotional support to any wiped out Americans.

And a piano player helped use his skills to calm down his fellow neighbours by hosting a free concert to relax them as results started flooding in.

A woman shared a video of the sweet moment on TikTok, which has racked up nearly 50,000 views since she posted it last night.

In it, she shows a note they posted in their reception, which states: "Hi hi!

"We aren't sure who in the building plays the piano so beautifully but we are in need of a little distraction today.

"If you happen to see this, we were hoping you could play us a little tune.

"Sincerely, your neighbours in Apartment 1."

And their neighbour Pete very kindly obliged after spotting their sweet request.

He responded: "So lovely! I will play from 6pm to 7pm today with my door open.

"Please feel free to open yours (with safety always in mind).

"Pete #5."

The delighted neighbour explained in the caption: "We asked our neighbour for an election night concert to calm our nerves, he delivered.

"I'm not crying, you are."

The sweet gesture was well-received on TikTok, with lots of people appreciating it.

One woman gushed: "Faith in humanity restored."

Another added: "This is what the people need."

A third replied: "This is soooo special. This cultivated great joy in both hearts.

"An artist just wants to be heard and by a soul that needs soothing."

Yesterday, a post-election guide urged citizens to have a "post-election safety plan."

It warns: "Regardless of who wins the election, there could be anger and violence.

"We need to be prepared physically and mentally."

It urges people to pack a "go bag" featuring important documents and ID, medicine, clothing, toiletries, and snacks.

It also says people should pack cash, cards, chargers, and something to offer personal protection.
