Man’s body found by Hollow Ponds in northeast London

A man’s body has been discovered by a lake in a northeast London beauty spot.

Police were called to the Hollow Ponds, in Leytonstone after the grim discovery at 8.30am on Tuesday.

Scotland Yard said they are currently treating the man’s death as “unexplained”.

A Met spokeswoman said: “An unresponsive man was found near a lake in the park.

“LAS attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are underway to inform next of kin.”

A forensic scene is currently in place at the popular boating lake that lies close to Whipps Cross hospital.

In 2015 Turkish national Hidir Aksaka’s decomposing body was found by members of the public at the same spot wrapped up in blue Ikea bags. It was later revealed that he had died of gunshot wounds.
