Man rushed to West Lothian hospital amid reports of 'boiler explosion'

A man has been rushed to hospital in West Lothian following reports of a boiler explosion in a Fife town.

Emergency crews rushed to Dewar Street in Dunfermline at around 1.45pm on Saturday, July 3 amid a series of frantic calls regarding an apparent ‘boiler explosion’.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the property engulfed in flames before responders arrived on the scene.

Police and fire crews remain on site to tackle the aftermath of the incident while one man has been taken to St John’s Hospital in Livingston for treatment, according to the Daily Record.

A number of nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution, but the man's condition is currently unknown.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: "Operations Control mobilised eight appliances, an aerial ladder platform and other specialist resources to the scene and firefighters are working to extinguish the fire in a mid-terrace two storey flat.

“One male casualty was passed into the care of paramedics and crews remain on the scene.“

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were made aware of a suspected gas explosion and subsequent fire at a property on Dewar Street, Dunfermline, around 1.50pm on Saturday, 3 July, 2021.

“Officers attended to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene.

“One man has been taken to St John’s Hospital for treatment."

She added: “A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution and Dewar Street is currently closed.”
