Man 'removed from takeaway safe room' after alleged assault in Belfast City Centre

The fire service had to help remove a man from takeaway safe room following an alleged assault in Belfast City Centre.

The police were called to a takeaway restaurant on Bradbury Place last night after receiving reports of an assault on Friday evening.

The PSNI said that upon arrival officers found that a man had locked himself inside a safe room.

The takeaway staff were unable to open the door and the NIFRS were called to assist.

A 25-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including assault, criminal damage and assault on police.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police received a report of an assault at a takeaway premises in the Bradbury Place area of Belfast on Friday evening (October 30th).

"Officers attended the scene and upon arrival were informed that a man had been locked inside a safe room.

"Staff were unable to open the room and the NIFRS were tasked to assist.

"Crews from the NIFRS attended the scene and facilitated the removal of the man from the safe room.

"A 25 year old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including assault, criminal damage and assault on police. He is currently in police custody at this time."
