Man remains in serious condition in hospital after smashing into lamp post

A man remains in a serious condition in hospital after crashing a car into a lamp post.

The smash happened on East Lancs Road at the junction with Higher Green Lane, in Astley yesterday afternoon.

The road was closed in both directions following the collision.

The air ambulance was also spotted near the scene.

The man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

He remains in a serious condition today, GMP said.

Police did not confirm whether the man's injuries were life threatening.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Just before 3pm, officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle on East Lancashire Road.

"Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital in serious condition where he remains.

"Enquiries are on-going."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service added: "The fire service was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a lamp post.

"Upon arrival, an adult male was being treated by paramedics and an ambulance was on scene.

"The individual was conveyed to Salford Royal Hospital."
