Man remains in hospital after being 'targeted with a samurai sword'

Police have provided a condition update for a man who was stabbed with a "samurai sword" last night in a brutal attack.

Emergency services were called to Delph Lane, in Whiston, to reports of a stabbing last night, at about 4.55pm.

The area around Stuart House flats was cordoned off after a man in his 30s was attacked with what witnesses said may have been a "samurai sword".

Police said the man was stabbed in the neck and wrists.

Today, the force have confirmed the man remains in hospital in a stable condition.

It is reported that a man, believed to be in his 40s, made off from the scene in a white Ford Focus.

Officers have opened a full investigation, including witness and CCTV enquiries.

A Merseyside police spokesperson told the ECHO: "At around 4.55pm, police were called to Stuart House on Delph Lane after it was reported a man believed to be in his 30s had been stabbed, resulting in wounds to his wrist and neck. The weapon has not yet been confirmed, but is possibly a samurai sword."

Chief Inspector Simon Owen said: "At this stage the circumstances and reasons behind this attack remain unclear, although we believe that it was targeted.

"This would have been a shocking attack to witness, so if you were in the area from around 4.45pm and saw or heard anything unusual, please come forward as your information or footage could be vital.
