A man was punched in the head by three men in balaclavas while walking through a park in Newcastle.

The victim was walking through Leazes Park in the city centre when he was approached by three males, who were all wearing balaclavas.

The incident occurred at around 7.20pm on Thursday, May 18.

The area in and around Leazes Park was particularly busy at the time as a Newcastle United home game, against Brighton and Hove Albion, was taking place at St James' Park that evening.

Officers investigating the report of assault are now appealing to the public for information.

Northumbria Police has urged anyone with information to contact them via the 'Tell Us Something' page on their website or by calling 101, quoting crime reference number 062581Y/23.
