Man ordered to get help with drink problem after street rammy

A Hamilton man has been ordered to get help with his drink problem after a disturbance in the town.

Barry Weir, 25, of Ashland Avenue, was also placed under supervision for a year and told to do 120 hours of unpaid work when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He admitted shouting abuse, making offensive gestures, kicking vehicles, challenging people to fight and struggling with police officers.

The incident happened in Birkhill Road on April 8.

Weir also admitted punching Peter McCabe on the hand to his injury.

Sheriff Liam Murphy also imposed a three-month electronic tagging order which prevents Weir leaving his house between 8pm and 7am each day.
