Man left with serious injuries after gang attack following Ireland rugby clash

A 51-year-old man was left with serious injuries after being attacked by a gang following the Ireland versus Argentina match in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday.

The man was left with "serious" injuries after the men assaulted him on Haddington Road.

The victim was approached by the men shortly before 5pm and he received "serious facial and head injuries".

He is still being treated in hospital and gardai described his injuries as "serious but not life threatening".

A garda spokesperson said there were a significant amount of people in the area at the time of the attack, following the rugby match, and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The spokesperson said: "They are particularly appealing to anyone with camera footage and motorists with dashcam from the Haddington Road area between 4.30pm and 5.30pm to make it available to them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Irishtown Garda Station 01 666 9600 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
