Man left permanently disfigured after party attack over chip

A party goer launched a vicious bottle attack on a man who had thrown a chip covered in sauce at him.

The victim suffered a serious ear injury and had stitches put in a head wound.

Kenzie Dundas, of Nethan Avenue, Netherton, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

The 19-year-old admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement at a flat in Woodside Tower, Motherwell, in December last year.

Scott O'Connor, prosecuting, said Dundas went into "a fit of rage" after the man hit him with a chip covered in sauce.

The fiscal said: "He lunged towards his victim and followed him into the hallway.

"The accused was drinking from a bottle of Buckfast and struck the other man on the head with it.

"The bottle broke and he continued to attack his victim, striking him repeatedly with his fist and the broken bottle.

"The victim rolled into the foetal position and pleaded with him to stop. Witnesses intervened, stopped the attack and removed the accused from the flat."

The victim was said to be "bleeding heavily" and was taken to hospital.

A 4cm cut to his head was treated with four stitches. He needed specialist treatment for a wound to his ear that cut through the cartilage and also suffered cuts to his arm.

Dundas also admitted assaulting a man in Motherwell town centre on Christmas Eve, two weeks after the bottle attack.

The court heard a second man, who was with his girlfriend waiting for a taxi, made a comment as Dundas walked past.

Dundas punched him, knocking him to the ground, then kicked him on the face and punched him. The victim, who fought back, escaped serious injury.

Sheriff John Speir told Dundas he'd committed two "vicious" assaults.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports and the sheriff agreed to defence agent Matthew McGovern's request to continue bail.

However, Dundas was placed under a 7pm to 7am curfew.
