Man left fuming after neighbours brand his home 'trashy' in note just days after moving in

You probably do what you can to make a good impression on your neighbours when you move into a new neighbourhood. You never know when you might need them to take in a missed delivery for you or to lend you a cup of sugar when you run out.

But one man appears to have got off on the wrong foot with his after they sent him a note calling him ‘trashy’ just days after moving in, the Mirror reports. The man explained his family are still in the process of moving into their new home, and had decided to throw out an old sofa that had been left in the property.

Once it was scheduled for collection, the man moved it into his front garden so the removal people could grab it - but his neighbour said he was treating the space like a "junkyard". In a post on Reddit, the dad, who is from the US, wrote: "Family just moved in. Got this letter. Left couch out for the trash. Kids play in the front yard."

He also shared a picture of the note, which read: "Dear new neighbour, we have all lived in this neighbourhood for, most of us, over 20 years. We all have meetings and talk to each other. We are happy you're here but you already look like you don't care what your yard looks like.

"Swingsets belong in the backyard, and PLEASE remove that eyesore of a couch OFF the kerb. Our neighbourhood does not need to look like a trailer park. We're not sure where you moved from, but we are certain there were dumpsters on the way that you could have dumped the couch. It looks trashy already!

The note compared the dad's home to a junkyard (Reddit)

"Please be considerate of us who keep our yards trash-free. Remove the couch! This is not a junkyard."

Commenters on the post shared the dad's frustration, as many of them said they had similar experiences with "nosey" neighbours.

One person said: "I can't stand nosey neighbours. My neighbour hates trees and is always trying to make us cut our trees down. My yard, my trees and if I want, my couch. Buzz off. Also, I hope you enjoy your new home and fill it with love."

As another added: "I lived in a decent enough neighbourhood and put a couch out on the street for big trash pickup. Never heard anything about it. Your neighbour sucks."

While a third posted: "Don't do the passive-aggressive s**t, just start chatting to the neighbours and letting them know you're waiting for the sofa to be picked up, and how your kids love how safe it is so they now also play on the lawn."
